Princess Halesia is a changeling.
She has a number of traits associated with The Fair Folk, including;
  • Incredible magic powers.
  • A distinct Lack of Empathy, especially in regards to "lesser" beings (i.e., non-magical humans).
  • An otherworldly appearance (though that could just be makeup).
Given how her twin brother, Humphrey, is at least outwardly human, it's possible that the real Halesia was swapped at a very young age, and her parents either never realized this, figured it out at some point and didn't care because her powers were so damn useful, or deliberately engineered the swap to add farie magic to the royal bloodline.

One of Humphrey's (and Halesia's) parents isn't human.
Keeping the above points about Halesia in mind, Humphrey's wings, as well as the revelation that Humphrey is in danger of turning into some kind of monster, it's possible that one their parents is some variety of non-human creature, possibly a Fairy. The fact that the twins ended up with such vastly different abilities could be because the nonhuman parent (most likely the mother) is part of a species with Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism, with the females appearing human and the males being monstrous butterfly things.
  • Supporting this theory is this page, where we see someone talking to Halesia offscreen, implied to be one of her parents (possibly her mother). We don't see who the speaker is, so it's possible that the speaker's physical appearance would spoil things in some way (such as being a 3-inch tall sprite, for example).
  • There's also this bit of bonus art, depicting Humphy as a tiny fairy. It's likely just a cute little drawing, but it could also be some sort of forshadowing.
    • All of this is pretty much Jossed by the end of Chapter 4 as we know Humphrey and Halesia were clearly human children and their mother died. The tiny Humphrey fairy is a pretty clear prototype for the bee form he acquired in Chapter 4.

Halesia Stole Humphrey's Magic
Humprey was—until now—the "normal" twin, displaying no abilities similar to his sister's magical might. But the real reason Halesia's so powerful is because as a child she stole Humphrey's power for herself. Humphrey's not "turning into a monster" he's just manifesting other powers that he could have controlled if he did have his magic. Had Halesia not taken his magic, he's have been the more powerful twin.

Halesia Cast a Want-It-Need-It Spell On Herself
In order to be the favorite and preferred over a male heir (as Humphrey is apparently the older twin), Halesia cast a spell on herself to make her at least appear superior to Humphrey in every way. This has somewhat backfired, however, as it made her appear so compietent and nessessary that her father and kingdom think it's a great idea to have her solving problems all the time.

Someone in the Cast is Allergic to Bees
To add tension to the apparently bee-themed arc in chapter 3.

Ash's father is an elf.
We've so far been shown every member of the Merry Party save one. In the flashback in Chapter 4, we see the Duke and his sister approaching three elves - two of whom we recognize as Wolf and his brother. The third's face is hooded over... save for two green eyes and very distinct floppy brown bangs resembling Ash's distinct hair. We know Ash's mother is a human that really hates elves and doesn't treat her son well either. And near the opening of Chapter 5? Humphrey asking Ash if he's ever heard of a "great elf-human romance." Sure seems like a giant foreshadowing sign.
