WMG / Ghost of Tsushima

Go To

This game will be the first entry of a series titled Ghost.
Note how the logo for Ghost of Tsushima emphasized Ghost in the title. This hints that should the game get any sequels or prequels, they will all be named "Ghost of [X]", with [X] presumably referring to another historical setting?

The game will have Multiple Endings.
While the developers have stated that there won't be an Infamous-style Karma Meter, there will still be a few moments in which the player's choices will affect the story and ultimately decide its conclusion.
  • Confirmed: You get two different Endings depending on whether you kill or Spare Lord Shimura in one final standoff as the games finale.

There will be at least one or two (named) characters who are Korean and/or Chinese.
Although everyone shown in the game's previews have been either Japanese or Mongolian, it's worth noting that the Mongol Empire's military included non-Mongol men who were members of the many nations that the Empire conquered. During their invasion of Japan, the Mongols did bring some Korean and Chinese troops with them.
  • Jossed; the game portrays all the (on-screen) invaders as being ethnic Mongols.

The game will end with a great typhoon destroying the Mongols
Dramatic Wind is a big part of the game, with the game being very windy in general in addition to magic wind that can point you to your objective or points of interest. This will lead up to a great storm destroying the Mongols, like the real-life storms that, according to legend, saved Japan from two Mongolian fleets led by Kublai Khan. This game will portray or at least imply that those storms were mystical in nature.
  • Jossed. Khotun's forces are defeated in direct battle. However, Jin and his allies did wait for a storm to come since it ensured the Mongols would have to stay anchored in Izumi Bay and prevent them from fleeing to the open seas.

Fuck it, Infamous cameo
Probably some alternate universe bullshit or something. Another egg in the barrel if Ghost is Cole's ancestor or some Yokai-demon whatever uses powers similar to Cole's
  • Confirmed. One of the collectible headbands is the Band of the Second Son, a headband that resembles the beanie Delsin wears in inFAMOUS: Second Son.

Jin is the world's first ninja
Shinobi did not truly start showing up until the 15th century, but Ghost of Tsushima takes place in the 13th century. Many of Jin's techniques and gear are staples of the shinobi arts, and his doctrine by the end of the game is a sort of romanticized version of the shinobi. It is possible he passed these arts on and set the groundwork for their rise in the 15th century.

Theories about Jin's modern day descendants...
  • Yakuza: And just for good measure, their tattoo would be a nine-tailed fox to represent Inari.
  • Infamous: They would awaken to being a Conduit, their power set letting them be just as stealthy as their ancestor(s).

Possible Sequel/Spin-Off ideas
Given the current reception and sales of Ghost of Tsushima, Sony will want a follow-up installment from Sucker Punch Productions.
  • "Ghost of Tsushima 2": based on the historical second Mongol invasion of Japan in 1281, the Mongols return, but this time, are backed by Chinese and Korean conscripts, making the size of their forces twice as large. Rather than a fictional character like Khotun Khan, "2" features historical Mongol general Arakhan being the Big Bad with Jin returning as the protagonist. Additionally, the Shogunate will spread false claims that "a storm" was what wiped out the invaders during the first invasion; Jin would be the progenitor of the kamikaze namesake for the second invasion, as the Shogunate will continue that false narrative of a typhoon destroying the fleet.
  • "Ghost of Kyoto"/"Tomoe": Spin-Off featuring Tomoe, it depicts this character's new life as an inn-keeper, but is forced to take up a vigilante life-style after a harrowing situation that threatens the character, which would ultimately be a chance for redemption after the events on Tsushima. Although Tomoe's forte is archery, Jin's Ghost tactics will be emulated, but with a different take.
  • Ghost(s) of ???: Set a few years after the original Ghost in a new location in Japan, with perhaps the antagonist not being Mongols, but a corrupt jito favored by the Shogunate but where the lower classes are treated cruelly by the ruling family. Jin and Yuna help to form La RĂ©sistance and liberate the territory from its oppressors. As an added twist on gameplay, more focus could be put on Jin and Yuna as a pair having differing play styles and tactics.
    • If SP wanted to make things easier on themselves, they could have the sequel take place on Tsushima, with the enemy clan having taken over the Sakai lands and possibly even having executed Lord Shimura under the Shogun's orders.

Multiplayer Final Boss
Since the Co-Op includes playings as demons of legends. The Final Boss is going to be Jin Sakai and will be using all of his Ghost Tactics against you. After you defeat him (or he defeats you), there will be a cutscene where Jin wakes up at a certain location like the Tengu Demon Boss. He'll comment on the player's performance and then we will see the "End of Quest" Transition. Jin was basically doing his usual sidequest and was investigating the Legends about the Players.

Jin becomes the de facto Jito
Regardless of whether Shimura lives and remains as Jito or dies and the Shogun appoints a replacement, the general population knows that the Ghost was the one doing all the real work in liberating Tsushima while the proper samurai just got people killed in honorable suicide missions. As a result, everyone will look to the last lord of the defunct Sakai clan to leadership regardless of who is officially in charge, similar to how the surviving son of Yarikawa is still unofficially ruling his family lands despite his clan being attainted.

Jin's primary allies become "Ghosts" in their own right, growing the legend but also obfuscating his identity.
  • Yuna mentions splitting up so she and Jin will rarely if ever be seen in the same place. Ishikawa and Masako also have nothing to do, particularly after their sidequest stories are wrapped up. So if all of them are picking off Mongols and bandits in different places, that's bound to mess with people's descriptions of the Ghost. Could be a young woman skulking through the shadows. Could be a man that is a peerless shot with a bow. Could be a swordswoman in full armor, cutting through enemies like a hot knife through butter. Could be Jin, doing one, all, or none of these things. Could be a ten-foot-tall demon with glowing red eyes.... that can also shapeshift. Good luck.

Yuriko died from concocting the poisons

There's just no way she could've naturally died that soon.

Jin actually invented the concept of a haiku.

He was just so Giftedly Bad at writing them, they didn't catch on for a really, really long time.
