Xia An'an and Kukuru are alternate universe versions of Amitie and Sig respectively.
Watching the series, anyone acquainted with Puyo Puyo will notice an uncanny amount of resemblances between the given characters. Amitie has the following similarities to An'an:- Amitie is a blonde tomboy who uses magic to win Puyo battles; she has a spell called "Fairy Fire" and has a fairy form in Puyo Puyo!! Quest. Xia An'an is a blonde tomboy who uses magic to capture fairies and, by way of her mother being a fairy, is half-fairy.
- Amitie has an alt in Puyo Puyo!! Quest based off of Sakura Kinomoto, of whom An'an started as an expy.
- Amitie is implied to be the incarnation of a goddess, but the transformation is incomplete; Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary has a new version of her called Red Amitie that is implied to be what the transformation would look like if it were completed. Xia An'an? She becomes a goddess later in the series. Goddess Angel also has white protrusions on her head that look like wings. Amitie has wings of the same color on her hat in her earlier and Retraux appearances.
- Amitie is implied to have a crush on Sig. Xia An'an develops a crush on Kukuru by Season 3.
- Both have a Significant Birth Date on a holiday. Amitie was born on May 5th, Children's Day in Japan, explaining her friendly, Genki Girl personality; Xia An'an was born on February 14th, Valentine's Day, to connect to her Flower Motif of the camellia flower, which represents love and affection.
- Both have been on the receiving end of some magic that causes them to shrink while their friend remains large. And yes, Sig and Kukuru are the friends involved. In the Puyo Puyo light novel Everyone's Dreams, Coming True!?, Amitie is turned into a tiny butterfly, with Sig holding her in his hand. In Season 2 Episode 39 of Flower Angel, a fairy casts magic that shrinks An'an and her team; it also grows Kukuru to his normal prince size, and he holds An'an in his hand and laughs at how small she is.
Now for Sig and Kukuru:
- Sig has a form in 20th Anniversary called Dark Sig that gives him a shadowy, cloudy appearance. Kukuru is at one point brainwashed by Princess Fannie to be a villain, causing him to become a darker purple and gain mismatched red-and-blue eyes, also causing him to look an odd bit like Dark Sig.
- The aforementioned crush applies here too, as there are less hints that Sig has a crush on Amitie but they are there.
- Sig has a red arm that is said to be from the neutral half of a demon. Kukuru has a malady applied to him in that he is stuck in a five-year-old body when the program begins, so they are both under the effects of some kind of curse.
- Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop has Sig's power being used by Meena, which breaks the seal on his red arm and causes the demon inside him to take over. So basically, Kukuru turning evil with Fannie's help all over again. And Amitie and Xia An'an are the ones who have to stop them, with Amitie being told by her Puyo cap that she's the only one who can stop Sig. An earlier Puyo Puyo light novel called Sig's Secret has a similar premise, albeit without Sig having his power sapped by anyone; once again, Amitie stops him.
Only question is, what is the significance of these similarities? Amitie is an expy of Puyo protagonist Arle, who is also implied to be a goddess, and the stories may have been meant to connect directly. It wouldn't be out of the question for Amitie to be connected to more than one individual.
