Dewicking NotSoDifferent per TRS
Changed line(s) 48,49 (click to see context) from:
Harry draws enough attention to him, and his unspecified motivations, throughout the book that it feels as though Grey is not a one-shot character. Even if one leaves the matter of 'the Rent' aside, the book's consistent theme of faith appears to strike a cord even with Grey (during one of Michael's many bits of dialogue on the subject) but it's unclear ''why''. TheReveal that [[spoiler: he is the Scion of a naagloshii]] only adds to the unanswered questions about this guy. On the other hand, he ''is'' a (self-confessed, even) "monster for hire" and it's not unreasonable to imagine that he simply won't turn up again because he has business elsewhere, and his motivations are his own...and no business of Harry's. But the NotSoDifferent vibe between him and Harry is strong enough (they swap pop culture references, for goodness sake, and Grey himself invokes the trope regarding their parentage) that I think it's at least a possibility.

** But, time flows at different rates in different parts of the Nevernever! It's possible Mab spent some time in one of those fast-flowing areas just after Harry took the Mantle, thus completing gestation before Harry died. Or, it could be that Fae have a different length of gestation than mortal women.

** Second, I ''don't'' think it's a coincidence that Harry's grandfather and mentor was the Blackstaff of the White Council. The whole point of that office was that ''someone'' needed to be able to step outside the Laws. Someone, from time to time, would need to do what was necessary. Harry's role as Knight of Winter could be very similar. Someone has to serve as Mab's hand, if she is to pursue her own role of guarding the Outer Gates. Harry may very well decide that he will be Ebenezar McCoy's grandson, and take up dark powers to defend those that walk in the light.

** First, Harry realizes in an earlier conversation that "If I wasn't being the Winter Knight... Mab would have picked another thug. Someone else would be bearing this burden. Maybe someone it would have destroyed by now."
