    Pre-release
Giancarlo’s character is Dracula/the girl’s father.
The whole scheme will turn out to be an elaborate ploy to bring his daughter some food.
  • Jossed. Giancarlo’s character is just another lackey, though he is a vampire.

Joey will be spared and made into the girl’s new mother/Renfield-figure
Jossed. Joey is spared because Abigail grants her her freedom and defends Joey from her father.

The whole thing is a plot to get Abigail her own servant

With the man at the beginning being Dracula's "Renfield" and all the thieves are prospective servants, needing to have the willingness to do less-than-legal things for the sake of a goal, skills in survival (since they might need to face other vamps to protect/provide for Abby) and a proper motivation for doing what they are doing other than just pure greed (like the one woman with her son).

The kidnapping plot was orchestrated by a rival vampire or possibly some other monster
Jossed. Lambert is a vampire and attempts to turn the tables to have Abigail and her father killed, but his initial job is to bring Abigail's father's enemies for her to eat.

Likely followed by a character lampshading that it's not as consistent a rule as most people think.
  • This troper had the same thought. As soon as they mention sunlight and she screams in the trailer I thought "She's screwing with them."
  • Jossed. Abigail's hand explodes when exposed to sunlight.

The kidnapping plot was a trap to feed Abigail
This makes sense as to why the house would be locked to such an extreme degree. It's to keep the kidnappers from escaping, not Abigail.
  • The bodies in the basement seem to support this idea.
  • Confirmed. Each kidnapper was specifically picked out for Abigail to eat.

    Post-Release
How Dean and Rickles wound up in Abigail’s crosshairs.
Each of the kidnappers were chosen from the Lazar family’s many enemies. It is never said what Dean and Rickles did to hurt the family but there can be guesses:
  • Rickles
    • Likely assassinated a high ranking or valuable member of the organization.
    • Could have failed to kill an enemy or target of the organization.
  • Dean
    • Could have easily hurt a member of the organization through reckless driving.

Joey becomes a vampire right after the end credits.
The way someone is turned into a true vampire (not just a mindless doll) is to be bitten and then drink the blood of the vampire that bit you. Joey was bitten by Frank and then found a lollipop with the stick covered in blood. If that blood is Frank's, considering he literally exploded right in front of her, she may become a true vampire from the blood on that stick.
  • Unlikely, as Abigail confirmed that Joey should be fine since Frank was dead, and a few related cases (such as Van Helsing) have stated that killing the 'prime' vampire would kill everyone he turned or created.
    • With Frank dead, there would be no way for him to control her as a puppet and without him Joey couldn't drink his blood to turn into a true vampire; so Abigail having no knowledge of the lollipop is right when she says she "should" be fine. Also Frank was turned and then immediately killed the vampire that turned him with no negative outcomes. Plus traditional weaknesses like crosses and garlic don't do anything and Sammy even points out how many different kinds of vampires are shown in media.

Abigail is not her father's biological daughter.
Abigail claims her father thought he wanted a daughter, but changed his mind and doesn't spend very much time with her. She also mentions him biting her in the library and turning her into a vampire that way - for her to be turned, she had to have been human before. Perhaps her father thought he wanted a daughter and kidnapped human Abigail from her real parents before turning her, only to neglect her after becoming bored of her after centuries. Would also explain why she implies her being turned was particularly traumatic if she was kidnapped, bitten and force-fed blood unwillingly.
  • Further evidence of this is the fact that Abigail claims to have been turned in the very house most of the movie takes place in, meaning she cannot be older than the European colonization of North America at the extreme. Since Lazar is heavily implied to be Dracula, he would have long since been a vampire by that point.
  • The prominent statue in the library and the paintings in the walls of the house depicting Lazar and Abigail also show them wearing what appears to be clothes from the 1600s, supporting the idea that Abigail’s turning dates to that period.

Vampires in this world lose both their powers and weaknesses if they don't drink blood.
In the event of a sequel, this would allow them to both tie the lore into the original, where Zaleska believed this to be the case, and explained the actress' aging.
