Please Be Happy is a yuri visual novel about love and friendship, and about understanding not just how to be happy, but how to be human.
It was created by Studio Élan and was released on November 21, 2022, for Itch.io
and Steam.
The game contains examples of:
- Asian Fox Spirit: Miho is a kumiho as her name references.
- Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Juliet only drinks willingly donated blood from the people of Wellington.
- Happily Adopted: Miho and Juliet bring Lyra into the family in Juliet's route.
- Internal Reveal: The person Miho is searching for, Jeong-in, passed away long before the story's present, something both Aspen and Juliet (as well as a good portion of the audience) quickly realize once they learn of them and how long Miho has lived. However, they hesitate to break the news to her in fear of how Miho would react. Miho herself only puts the pieces together a little later on when Juliet shows Miho her adoptive daughter's grave and speaks of how painful it is as an immortal to watch their loved ones die.
- Mortality Ensues: Miho intentionally inflicts this upon herself in Aspen's route by destroying the bead containing her magic, which results in her losing her immortality along with her gumiho traits and powers, effectively turning her into a normal human.
- Outliving One's Offspring: Justified as Juliet is an immortal vampire while her daughter was a human she raised.
- Playing a Tree: Miho takes this role in the play she joins in with Lena.
- Really 700 Years Old: Played straight by Miho and Juliet who are around the same age of over three centuries old as implied by Jeong-in's death in the 17th century.
