Danganronpa: Fandom's Calling is a fan game of the video game series Danganronpa created by Zel. It is currently in development, with the prologue released and chapter 1 in progress.
The story takes place in a universe similar to our real life and each of the characters are fans of Danganronpa themselves. A super-fan of the game series opened a Real-Life Hope's Peak Academy, otherwise known as the Material Hope's Peak Academy. Their goal was to make an elite school modeled after the in-game Hope's Peak Academy - inspired by the "Ultimate Talent" aspect of it. 16 fans with exceptional talents enroll in this fanmade school and things quickly go awry, with a familiar monochromatic bear showing up.
Tropes in Danganronpa: Fandom's Calling include:
- Ascended Fanboy: All of the students are fans of Danganronpa, to the point where they want to enroll in a real Hope's Peak Academy.
- Breaking Old Trends: This fangame breaks familiar tropes seen in the canon installments.
- The cast does not have a character with a Non-Standard Character Design or a Gentle Giant.
- The first execution occurs in front of everyone during the prologue.
- This is due to Kaori Tsubaki breaking a rule.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: The entire game is centered around the Fourth Wall being broken, with each of the characters being fans of the Danganronpa franchise.
- Call-Back: Due to the nature of the story, there are many references and call-backs to canon Danganronpa games.
- Sachiko Yuzuki starts by talking to the player and introducing herself, akin to that of Makoto Naegi.
- Also like him, she is the last one to enter the gym while everyone else is waiting for her.
- Sachiko mentions Etsuka reminding her of Hiyoko Saionji and Himiko Yumeno due to her small stature.
- Sachiko draws comparison between Taichi and Byakuya Togami.
- Recurring Element: Several Danganronpa tropes and archetypes are prominent.
- The protagonist has an ahoge and is the Ultimate Lucky Student.
- On the contrary, Sachiko's official title is technically Lucky Student, but she prefers going by "Lucky" Student as she explains that her luck is more bad than good.
- Akira Saeko is represented as the Ultimate ???.
- However, unlike the previous mystery students who couldn't remember their talent, Akira just refuses to tell anyone.
- Etsuka Kasumi is the Token Mini-Moe of the group.
- Haruhi Suki is the Ambiguously Brown girl of the group.
- The protagonist has an ahoge and is the Ultimate Lucky Student.
- Recursive Canon: The in-game universe is closely modeled after ours, where Danganronpa is a video game franchise created by Spike Chunsoft, as opposed to the Reality T.V. series set up in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.
