Beware the watery skies.

The Rainman is an indie horror game paying homage to classic slasher movies. It was created by Copperbolt and released on October 29, 2023 and serves as a spin-off to to their previous game The Happyhills Homicide.

There's a Serial Killer on the loose in the small town of Crystalpine Grove. His victims all appear to be young women. Bad news for our protagonist Suzie, who is currently home alone.

The game is available for free on it's Gamejolt page.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • The '80s: As The Happyhills Homicide before it, the game takes place in the 1980s.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Implied for Andy in the ending where he saves her life by hitting the Rainman in the head with a baseball bat. As he and Suzie can be seen watching TV together in that ending.
  • Final Girl: Suzie can be this if the player makes the right choices.
  • Freudian Excuse: The Rainman murders young brownhaired women because they remind him of his abusive mother, who put him through extreme physical torture when he was still a child.
  • Police Are Useless: Detective Parker isn't of much use during the story. While he does attempt to warn Suize about the Rainman, in almost every ending where the Rainman shows up at Suzie's house he kills detective Parker with little to no difficulty.
  • Red Herring: A number of characters are set up as creepy and suspicious, but turn out to be harmless and well-meaning in the end.
    • "Creepy" Joe constantly makes inappropriate remarks toward Suzie, even pointing out that she's exactly the Rainman's type. He also offers Suzie a ride in his van when she misses the last bus home, with it being implied he has ulterior motives. Joe isn't actually a creep, he just has No Social Skills. He is genuinely worried for Suzie but is so bad at expressing it he comes across like a Dirty Old Man.
    • Suzie's boyfriend Andy is heavily implied to be a cheater and isn't taking Suzie's request to put their relationship on pause too well. Throughout the game he keeps showing up at places Suzie goes to, including the diner she works at and requesting to talk to her even when Suzie tells him she needs space. While definitely not the best boyfriend out there, Andy turns out to be a good kid in the end. He tries his best to protect Suzie from the Rainman, even saves her life in several of the endings.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Suzie's house is on Strode Street.
    • A newspaper article talks about a recent series of brutal murders in the town of Happyhills.
    • There's an advertisement for Scream Soap on the bus Suzie takes to work.
    • Suzie takes the Krueger Pass to get home when she misses her bus.
    • The news anchor who gives the report on the Rainman's first victim is named Tony Loomis. Which could be both a reference to Dr. Loomis from the Halloween franchise or Billy Loomis, the first Ghostface.
    • Jessica pranks-calls Suzie by asking her "What's your favorite scary movie?"
    • The Rainman's real name is Jason Baker.
  • Sinister Whistling: The Rainman whistles the melody of "London Bridge is Falling Down" when he stalks Suzie. It was the song his mother used to sing every time she waterboarded him.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Suzie's (ex-)boyfriend Andy keeps showing up everyhwere she goes, begging her to get back together with him. Suzie's not amused.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The Rainman targets exclusively young women and disposes of his victims by first drowning them then cutting up their bodies.
