Video Game / Scooby-Doo Mystery

Go To

Scooby-Doo Mystery was a video game based on Scooby-Doo released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis by Acclaim Entertainment and Sunsoft.

Both games are different from each other despite being made by the same companies, as the Super Nintendo game is a Platform Game where you play as Scooby and Shaggy, while the Sega Genesis is a Point-and-Click Game. But the plots on both games have the Mystery Gang solving mysteries (four for Super Nintendo, two of Sega).

Tropes for both ports:

  • Amusement Park of Doom:
    • The second level of the Super Nintendo game has the Mystery Gang visiting a funfair called Bing Bong Bros that is overtaken by a ghost clown.
    • The second level of the Sega Genesis game called "Scooby-Doo in Ha-Ha Carnival" has the gang visiting Ha-Ha Carnival with a clown taking it over.
  • "Test Your Strength" Game:
    • In the second level of the Super Nintendo game, there's a strongman game that the player needs to ring in order to get the key to access more of the park.
    • The second level of the Sega Genesis game has a strongman game, but the attendant uses a magnet to rig it.
  • You Meddling Kids: In typical Scooby-Doo fashion, the villains will say this to the gang after they are caught.

Tropes for the Super Nintendo port:

  • Bag of Spilling: Items you collect in the levels like weapons will vanish once you finish it.
  • Blob Monster: The Tar Monster (not the same one from "The Scooby-Doo Show") is the main bad guy of the third level.
  • Falling Damage: Scooby and Shaggy will revive damage if they fall from high platforms.
  • Password Save: The game has a password system to continue where you left off.
  • Pirate Episode: The first level has the gang trying to spot a ghost pirate.
  • Production Throwback: The opening theme used for the game is the original Ted Nichols version originally used for the first couple of episodes.
  • Sanity Meter: Scooby and Shaggy have this as their health bar. If they encounter creatures like parrots and rats, their gauge will fill up and it'll be a game over.
  • Whack-a-Monster: There's mini games where you need to hit the monsters to earn points. But you can't hit the Mystery Gang members.

Tropes for the Sega Genesis port:

  • Loophole Abuse: During the strongman game in "Ha-Ha Carnival", Shaggy decides to use a flagpole being pulled down to hit the bell. The attendant gets mad at Shaggy for cheating the game, but Shaggy tells him that there's no rules that it can only be hit with the hammer and calls out the guy for cheating from the start. The attendant decides to give the two the hammer.
  • Scooby-Dooby Doors: Early in "Scooby-Doo in Blake's Manor", the Ghost of the Ancient Chieftan chases Scooby and Shaggy through the hallways doors.
