Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- The Prophecy of the Throne is a Visual Novel / Turn-Based Tactics game, developed by Chime and published by Spike Chunsoft. It is the first Re:Zero game to be released outside of Japan, and was available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on January 27, 2021.

The story takes place one month after Subaru's new life in another world began, and depicts an alternate take of the third Arc. An emissary sent by the royal castle suddenly appears, with news that the royal selection has been postponed, but offers no reason as to why. The postponement of this grand event that decides the next ruler of the Kingdom of Lugunica stirs Subaru and his friends into action. They return to the royal capital only to find that a sixth candidate has claimed their stake for the throne. But the Dragon Stone prophesizes that only five candidates would be chosen. With one candidate being an imposter, suspicions are immediately cast toward one woman in particular: Emilia. What answers lie beyond the mysterious web of assassinations, betrayal, and conspiracies...?

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- The Prophecy of the Throne provides examples of:

  • Beach Episode: Starting a new game from a clear data unlocks a scene where the heroes decide to take a break. There are two variants of the scene, depending if Subaru invites Beako or not.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Downplayed. The Stinger shows Subaru confronting Petelgeuse at the capital, but the former has the support of Roswaal, Ram, Rem, Emilia and Puck, implying that the heroes have a good chance of winning.
  • Canon Foreigner: The game features brand-new characters designed by the original artist Shinichirou Otsuka, such as the sixth candidate Melty Pristis and her older brother Salum.
  • Charm Person: Melty possesses the "Evil Eye of Indoctrination", which allows her to completely manipulate another person after touching them.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Melty's Camp is heavly associated with purple. Salum and Wolf as well.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: In one of the loops, Subaru is killed by a swarm of Sakura's Mana Wasps, who enters his mouth and bursts his stomach from inside out.
  • Dramatic Irony: The main premise of the game is figuring out who the fake Royal Candidate is, after suspicion is cast on Emilia due to her heritage. A player familiar with the source material (which is likely, given how the game skips the first two Arcs) will thus be wary when one of the candidates is a Canon Foreigner.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Subaru's deaths are never actually shown on-screen, as most of them would be rather... graphic.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Melty and Sakura's special powers would not be as great as they currently are without assistance from Capella Emerada Lugnica.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: As in the source material, should Subaru lack the information he needs to continue and end up dying, time rewinds to a "checkpoint" and he gets another shot.
  • Last of His Kind: Melty and Salum are the only known surviving members of the "Evil Eye Tribe", a group that used to live in the Vollachia Empire before their village, Farandar, was destroyed during the Demi-Human War. It's later learned that Sakura was also a member of the Tribe, but lost her Evil Eye ability.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: The main antagonist of the game is the masked Wolf, who even uses the title "the Malevolent Masked Magician".
  • Mana Drain: Wolf's special ability, the "Evil Eye of Avarice", allows him to siphon mana from his opponents, either by absorbing their attacks or draining it directly from their bodies to the point of killing them.
  • New Game Plus: Starting a new game by loading a Clear Data unlocks some extra scenes.
  • Spanner in the Works: In the New Game +, Subaru has the option to bring Roswaal with him to Lugunica. In doing so, he causes Sakura's entire plan to fall apart when the Margrave easily identifies Melty as an imposter and member of the Evil Eye tribe.
  • Split Personality: The game's main antagonist, Wolf, turns out to be one for Salum.
  • Story Branching: A limited variation; there is a flowchart of events, to help keep track of what Subaru has learned while looping, but only one route leads to progress while the rest lead to a Non-Standard Game Over.
  • What If?: The game's story is an alternate take of Arc 3: "Return to the Capital City", fully supervised by the original series author Tappei Nagatsuki.
