Radical Rappelling is an Endless Running Game by Halfbrick Studios, released on mobile phones in 2015.
The player joins Rip and Roxy as they rappel down the mountain, hopping on the rocks and trying to avoid the spikes. The game is played by tapping and holding the screen to descend. Doing well on your run, (in particular, performing various tricks such as Rock Hops, Rock Vaults and Ringos by interacting with specific elements that appear along the way) fills up a tank for Radical Remix. When activated, Radical Remix will make Rip or Roxy briefly invulnerable to obstacles and faster to boot.
Radical Tropes:
- Added Alliterative Appeal: The game goes out of its way to use as many words that start with an "R" as possible. This includes the game's title, almost everything Rip and Roxy say, what they get to interact with, player ranks and names of the locations.
- Advancing Wall of Doom: To make sure player doesn't stand still for too long, Rip and Roxy have to outrun molten lava that slowly descends their way.
- Character in the Logo: A silhouette of Rip rappelling appears on the logo's first letter.
- Charge Meter: Doing tricks and hopping through the rocks fills up the meter for Radical Remix, a beverage that makes player invulnerable and fast for few seconds.
- Floating Platforms: Many rocks that Rip and Roxy hop through on their descend float in the air.
- Hearts Are Health: Revives that can be obtained through Randomiser are represented by red hearts. Despite their name they act more like additional hit points.
- One-Hit-Point Wonder: Rip and Roxy only need to take one hit for the game to end. The only way to get more hit points is by getting "Revives" through Randomiser.
- Parody Product Placement: Trailer for the game
is "proudly sponsored by" Radical Remix energy drink, which among other things is claimed to be Raddictive, Revolutionary, Radiating and Reinventive. - Purely Aesthetic Gender: The game allows to choose between male Rip and female Roxy. The differences between them don't go beyond their looks and voice clips.
- Ride the Rainbow: Rainbow is one of the tricks you can perform by touching the cloud. Rip/Roxy will slide on a small rainbow that appears from it, before continuing their journey.
- Spike Balls of Doom: Main obstacles of the game (outside of the lava) are the small purple floating spike balls that you must hop past.
- Visual Pun: Every once in a whilenote one of the rocks will have a star on it. Hopping on it will count as a trick and make Rip/Roxy shout "Rockstar!"
