Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: The Return of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is a fangame based on the Ace Attorney series.

Phoenix Wright has just returned to England after an exhausting adventure in the town of Labyrinthia and is ready to relax for the rest of his stay. However, he soon gets involved in a string of mysteries that lead to him reviving a great ace attorney who disappeared a hundred years ago.

Follow defence attorneys Phoenix Wright and Ryunosuke Naruhodo as they fight for their clients' lives in the Crown Court of London while seeking the truth behind the rampage of the Doctor from a hundred years past!

The download link can be found here. The game is a work-in-progress with two cases out of eight fully complete.

This Fan Game provides examples of:

  • Absurdly Short Level: The first episode can easily be cleared in less than an hour, making it shorter than even the introductory cases of most other Ace Attorney titles.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: The consult option from Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice and the ability to skip through text can be enabled on the title screen. The episodes also feature a chapter select that allows the player to start from specific testimonies or partway through the investigations.
  • Asshole Victim: Arthur targeted Vayle Snow because of her involvement in stealing his script.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Syron's own interjection, using the same voice clip as Jezaille Brett from The Great Ace Attorney.
  • Busman's Holiday: Phoenix's exchange visit to London from Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney continues into this game, and he still finds himself standing in court.
  • The Butler Did It: Ryunosuke briefly suspected Servius Moran, the servant of his client, of murdering Ronald Adair. This was quickly disproven.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The foreman of case 3's jury, selected out of the 6 billion citizens of London, is Satoru Hosonaga, a Japanese inspector who Ryunosuke has met before and is in no way a citizen of London.
    • On the same jury is the prosecutor's mother and a Frenchman who's heavily implied to be Arsène Lupin.
  • Courtroom Drama: It's a given in an Ace Attorney game.
  • Crossover: With Professor Layton, if only for the first episode.
  • Demoted to Extra: Professor Layton appears as the game's first defendant, but is absent in the next case.
  • Deuteragonist: The protagonist role is split between Phoenix Wright and Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
  • Friendly Enemy: Percule Hoirot starts out as this, especially compared to the much more antagonistic Imelda Syron. He clearly loses some of his respect to Ryunosuke though as the trial progresses.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Layton starts acting as Phoenix's co-counsel halfway through the first case.
  • I Should Write a Book About This: Arthur's work-in-progress was meant to be an adaptation of Ryunosuke's adventures.
  • Left Hanging: Did Isaac Pencille really kill Carmine Accidenti? Probably not, considering it's even called into question to begin with.
  • Long-Lived: "Granny" is very much implied to be Iris Wilson from The Great Ace Attorney, putting her a few decades over 100 years old.
  • Mirror Character: Isaac Pencille has several parallels to The Great Ace Attorney : Resolve's Raiten Menimemo, having the same vocation and general character quirks. Both are also the culprit of a tutorial case involving a poison-based murder, and both also barge in after their cases and insist that the events of their game's opening have much more to hide.
  • Mysterious Veil: Arthur disguised as Vayle Snow with one.
  • Never Found the Body: Ronald Adair's corpse vanished from the crime scene before the police arrived. Also applies to the rest of The Doctor's victims.
  • Non-Standard Game Over: Losing at any point in case 2 results in the defendant, Kyle Cutter, taking over the defense instead of letting the court find him guilty. This almost guarantees his plagiarism is never revealed.
  • No Poker Face: Not shown, but Pete is joked about being this.
  • Pajama-Clad Hero: At the start of episode 3, Susato had to drag Ryunosuke out of bed to get to court in time. He spent the whole first trial in his pajamas, to everyone's confusion and amusement.
  • Public Domain Character: Percule Hoirot appears as the third case's prosecutor.
  • Revisiting the Cold Case: Phoenix spends the third case reading the files for Ryunosuke's last case from over 100 years ago.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Harold Hardy ran from the courtroom before he can be arrested for the murder of Ronald Adair.
  • Sore Loser: Pete was losing his game of poker and didn't take this well. When the break was called, he stood up in a huff, causing him to knock his chair over. He didn't bother to pick it back up.
  • Think of the Children!: Susato used this to convince Juror 3 to prolong the trial in case 3.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: While pressing him during the first summation examination, Ryunosuke notes how feminine Hosonaga's outfit is. He even thinks he looks good in it.
