Welcome to New Koza
Orangeblood is a hip-hop-themed JRPG, released for PC on 14 Jan, 2020. It was developed by Grayfax Software using RPG Maker MV, and published by PLAYISM.
In an alternate history, New Koza is a manmade island off the coast of Okinawa, humming with a dirty, exotic vibe. The Yakuza run the place, but four local teenage girls plan to carve their way to the top. Guns in hand, they aim to kill the competition until they're the ultimate, most powerful women in the Milky Way.
Tropes:
- Alternate History: The game is set in "a historic timeline different from that which we know", most notably in the dominance of hip-hop style.
- Color-Coded Characters: The playable characters are Vanille (pink), Jackie (green), Machiko (black), and Yazawa (blue).
- Color-Coded Item Tiers: From most common to rarest, there's white, green, blue, and pink-text gun descriptions.
- Fire, Ice, Lightning: The three elements in the game are Fire (Red), Cryo (Blue), and Shock (Yellow). A gun without an element will have a Grey icon in the inventory.
- Jive Turkey: Present everywhere. Even items have descriptions like "fully revives homies".
- Level Scaling: All enemies have a minimum level, but they can scale up if the player surpasses their levels. Fortunately, randomly generated equipment also scales to the player's level, thus averting Anti-Grinding.
- Randomly Generated Loot: All of the equipment (guns, shoes, and accessories) is randomized, leading to names such as the "Heavy barrel pesticenocide Lv.15" or the "Conductive sawed-off long scope 9mm amp Lv.20".
- Reluctant Psycho: The Big Bad, Iceman, is a clone who was created genetically predisposed to being a greedy sociopath. Right before he's killed, he admits he envies those with the capacity to do good.
- Year X: The game takes place in 199X, "the end of the 20th century".
