A shocking and enlightening puzzle platformer.
ElecHead is an indie puzzle platform game developed and published by Nama Takahashi and released on Steam on October 14, 2021 and Nintendo Switch on May 11, 2022.In a world enshrouded by darkness, along comes a little robot named Elec. He has the power to give things in his world...power! By standing on items like platforms he can transfer electricity into them to activate them. In addition, he has the ability to throw his head to activate things remotely, but must make sure he can get his head back before he powers down.
Tropes:
- Automatic New Game: When you begin the game, you start right on the title screen and can move around.
- Big Blackout: The city in the game has been plunged into a massive blackout.
- Conspicuous Electric Obstacle: Light Bulbs, when connected with Elechead's head, will create deadly lightning.
- Checkpoint: Checkpoints are littered throughout the game.
- Earn Your Bad Ending: While the main ending already sees Elec power a device that destroys the entire moon, which you've spent the entire game traversing, the golden ending (which can only be accessed once you collect all 20 gold data chips) sees Elec power a device that destroys the Earth instead.
- The Ending Changes Everything: Depending on your completion rate, the game ends with Elec destroying either the Moon or planet Earth. Combine that with the mid-game reveal that you're on the moon, and it becomes clear that Elec's goal this entire time is seemingly to kill off humanity. The opening was Elec getting rid of the power in the city, implicitly killing the inhabitants of the moonbase: hence why the Moon ending is the "bad" one, as the humans on the Moon are dead anyway.
- Excuse Plot: Shown only in a brief cutscene when the game starts. The city falls into darkness but Elec comes to life with a mission to power the city.
- Fireballs: Balls of fire are emitted from certain traps.
- 100% Completion: There are twenty golden data chips to collect, as well as ten additional color palettes. The latter isn't required for the Golden Ending.
- Shock and Awe: Elec has the power to energize certain items and objects by simply touching them.
- Spikes of Doom: Spikes make an appearance as an obstacle that must be avoided.
- Use Your Head: Elec can detach his head and throw it at remote objects to activate them.
