Codename: DEMOLITIONIST (formerly SWWM GZ), is a gameplay mod for GZDoom created by Marisa the Magician and supporting the classic Doom series as well as Heretic, Hexen and its expansion. It began as a Continuity Reboot of a series of Unreal Tournament mods created by Marisa, before growing into its own thing entirely.

The mod's Excuse Plot begins during the invasion of Earth in Doom II: Hell on Earth. You play as the Demolitionist, or Demo-chan, a combat robot designed by Akari Labs, who is sent to clean up the mess left by the UAC, armed with a variety of over-the-top weaponry and a jetpack. The game's story progresses as you go through the classic id and Raven levels, linking each game together.

The mod features a score system and a shop where you can buy weapons and items with hard earned points. It also features a library accessable thru the same interface, detailing the mod's universe alongside some snark from your creator, Saya Miyamoto. It's quite an impressive amount of worldbuilding for a gameplay wad, with Marisa reportedly claiming it would take about six hours to read through all of it. It also features compatibility with the Doom II episode No Rest for the Living, the fan-made megawad Eviternity, and the Hexen expansion pack Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, and can be complimented with other mods such as Doom Roguelike Arsenal Monsters and Colourful Hell.

The mod's project thread on the Zdoom forums can be found here and its GitHub repo can be found here. The WAD requires an up-to-date version of GZDoom and does not support software rendering due to it's extensive use of Unreal Engine 1 models and pixel shaders, requiring OpenGL or Vulkan.

Codename: DEMOLITIONIST contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Ass Kicks You: Dashing backwards into an enemy crushes them with Demo-chan's pronounced buttocks.
  • BFG: Pretty much every weapon. The granddaddy of them though is the Ynykron Artifact, which fires a beam of death that not only vaporizes anything that contacts it but spreads a chain reaction of death. Its altfire shoots a singularity that sucks in everything in it's radius, including the player if they're not careful.
  • Hand Cannon: Your starting weapon, the Explodium gun. There's also the Candy Gun, an overpowered version that sometimes spawns in place of BFG-level weapons, which deals much more damage. The Spreadgun also counts, seeing as it takes six-gauge shells.
  • Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels: Introduces new ones, in classic Doom fashion.
  • Made of Explodium: Literally, as some weapons, such as the starting pistol, use a substance named such.
  • One-Hit Polykill: The Silver Bullet .JET, a giant sniper rifle which can rip through enemies.
  • Quad Damage: The Devastation Sigil is this mod's equivalent. It even covers your screen in a blue tint just like the Trope Namer from Quake.
  • Shout-Out: Quite a few.
    • One of the inventory items is the Fuckin' Invinciball. A clip of Sundowner saying the line even plays after using it.
    • Prior to the addition of proper voice acting in 1.2, Demo-chan used Fem!Sole Survivor lines from the Japanese dub of Fallout 4 as placeholders.
  • Smart Bomb: The Mykradvo Artifact acts as one, killing or heavily damaging monsters in your immediate vicinity.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Plenty, nearly every weapon has some form of explosive effect.
