Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is an upcoming association football sports video game developed by Tamsoft and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It is the first game based on the Captain Tsubasa franchise released specifically for gaming platforms since 2010's Nintendo DS title Captain Tsubasa: Gekito no Kiseki released in Europe under the name Captain Tsubasa New Kick Off. It is scheduled for release worldwide on August 28, 2020.
The game tells the story of either Tsubasa Ozora, the main character of the Captain Tsubasa manga or you, going through an alternate version of the events of the manga.
Taking a Arcade Style approach Football, not unlike SNK's Super Sidekicks on Neo Geo, the game plays in real time with the player controlling each time the team member who happens to have the ball. Overall, the game is very action packed.
The game also introduces new characters and develops characters that were just extras in the original manga and explore new teams like USA or Africa just to name a few.
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has the following tropes.
- The Ace: Most of the Captains has vastly superior stats to the other players.
- Adaptational Badass: Most of the players are useful and in fact, you need a somewhat balanced team to win. Even nameless players can be useful is used correctly.
- Adaptational Wimp: Wakabayashi and most of the top tier keepers aren't as strong as in the manga for balance purpose, they're still very strong compared to most of the keepers.
- Cast from Hit Points: The Keepers will gradually uses their stamina to parry shots. The stronger the shot is, the more stamina they will use. Without stamina, they're far less effective.
