Big Boy Boxing is a wacky, boxing, boss rush game by indie developers Soupmasters. The game takes heavy inspiration from the Punch-Out!! series in terms of gameplay and premise while basing its animation and presentation on Cuphead.

This game features examples of:

  • Acrofatic: A good number of the boxers range from portly to cartoonishly overweight yet are just as quick, if not quicker, than their more fit counterparts. Some examples being Bruno the Banana, Coach Skank and D'Bulldozah.
    • Subverted with Titanic 5000 who has a hard time even standing up due to his water weight gimmick.
  • Ascended Extra: The Wild Dude was created just to appear at the end of the tutorial and give the player their first fight, but he proved so popular that he got his own tournament.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: The whole roster is very wacky and zany, but that only makes most of them more unpredictable and therefore more challenging to take down.
  • Boss Game: As should be expected from a boxing game that openly touts being inspired by Cuphead.
  • Clashing Cousins: Coach Hank and Skank don't exactly get along with each other.
  • Expy: Several of the combatants are directly based to ones from Punch-Out!!, notably, Bruno the Banana, who looks almost identical to the iconic King Hippo, With the exception that Bruno is actually a monkey in a robot body.
    • Additionally, Dr. Brawn's robot arms and green coloration is highly evocative of Dr. Octopus.
  • Failed a Spot Check: The bouncer who prevents kids from entering the tournaments doesn't see past three kids' Paper-Thin Disguise of a Totem Pole Trench and lets "Mr. Adyltmen" enter.
  • Five-Aces Cheater: If you can think of an absurd way a cartoon character could cheat at boxing, odds are, someone on the game's roster has tried it.
  • Leitmotif: Each fighter not only has a unique theme, but also a subdued version of it that plays during their intro cutscene.
  • One-Winged Angel: Occurs with multiple fighters, but best seen with Freezy Boy hulking out after losing his helmet.
  • Totem Pole Trench: This is the case with Mr. Adyltmen, even factoring into the gameplay, as the kids who fall out of the coat keep fighting from the sidelines.
  • Turns Red: One of the games major selling points is that each boss fight takes a twist of some sort, with roughly half of them leaning into One-Winged Angel territory.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Freezy Boy is a perfect one for the game, being a simple fight that still incorporates the cartoony insanity the player should expect.
