Prepare to experience a whole new world of 8-bit gaming!
A Licensed Game based on Disney's Aladdin, developed by SIMS and released by Sega in 1994 for the Sega Master System and Game Gear.

This game is a 2D sidescroller where you play as Aladdin in his quest to find Genie's lamp so he can wish to be a prince and wed Jasmine, foiling the evil plot of Jafar, the Sultan's trusted advisor who wants to take over Agrabah along the way. In between levels, many of the movie's key scenes are shown in cutscenes.

Not to be confused with the Sega Genesis version developed by Virgin Interactive, or the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version developed by Capcom, both of which were released the prior year.

This game provides examples of:

  • American Kirby Is Hardcore: The Master System and European Game Gear versions use artwork identical to that of the Genesis version, where Aladdin rides the magic carpet, which is engulfed in flames, while swinging his sword at Jafar, while the North American Game Gear cover art features Aladdin and Jafar fighting over Jafar's scepter as Genie watches in horror. The Japanese Game Gear version's cover art has Aladdin and Jasmine ride the magic carpet peacefully over the city of Agrabah as Jafar watches from the left side.
  • "Arabian Nights" Days: Given the source material, every level has at least a little bit of this.
  • Auto-Scrolling Level:
    • The first level involves Aladdin running from Razoul in the Agrabah Marketplace, dodging the barrels and pits in his way.
    • The second level involves Aladdin and Jasmine running across the rooftops of the city of Agrabah.
    • The first phase of the final battle against Jafar involves Aladdin chasing after him through the Sultan's palace, dodging falling chandeliers, pits, and lightning bolts and flames that Jafar shoots.
  • Bat Out of Hell: Bats serve as enemies in the Cave of Wonders.
  • Big Fancy Castle: After completing the Cave of Wonders, most of the rest of the game takes place in the Sultan's Palace.
  • Bottomless Pits: These are present in the Cave of Wonders and the Sultan's Palace. Falling into one results in instant death.
  • Circling Birdies:
    • Stars spin around Aladdin's head when he gets hit.
    • The same thing happens to the Palace Guards when Aladdin tosses stones at their heads.
  • Falling Chandelier of Doom: These serve as obstacles in the Sultan's Palace. They fall when Aladdin gets near them.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: The first phase against Jafar involves Aladdin chasing him through the Sultan's Palace, dodging obstacles along the way. The phase ends when Jafar hits a wall.
  • Hyperactive Metabolism: Apples and bread restore lost health.
  • Lethal Lava Land: The third part of the Cave of Wonders is filled with lava.
  • Levels Take Flight:
    • In the third part of the Cave of Wonders, Aladdin rides the magic carpet to escape after the cave tries to seal him in and engulf him in lava.
    • The fifth level is based on the "A Whole New World" scene, where Aladdin and Jasmine ride on the magic carpet over the city of Agrabah. In this level, they must dodge birds, horses, lightning bolts, tornadoes, rooftops, and falling fruit.
  • Life Meter: Aladdin has one that consists of three red gems. If he gets hit, he loses half a gem, meaning he can take up to six hits before he dies. Collecting apples and bread restores lost health.
  • Locked Door: In the first part of the Cave of Wonders and the Sultan's Palace, Aladdin will come across several locked doors, which he will need to find keys to unlock.
  • One-Hit Kill:
    • In the second part of the Cave of Wonders, if Aladdin touches one of the forbidden treasures, boulders rain down from the ceiling, crushing him to death.
    • If the Palace Guards catch Aladdin in the fourth level, the Sultan's Palace, Aladdin instantly loses all of his health.
  • One-Winged Angel: During the final battle with Jafar, the third and final phase involves Jafar transforming into a giant cobra, just like in the movie.
  • Password Save: This game uses a four-letter password system. Passwords are revealed when you get a Game Over but choose not to continue.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: This game features 8-bit renditions of many of the movie's themes:
    • "One Jump Ahead" is used as the BGM of the first two levels.
    • "Friend Like Me" is used as the BGM during the cutscene where Aladdin first meets Genie.
    • "A Whole New World" is used as the background music for the fifth level, and during the closing credits.
  • Sequential Boss: The final boss, Jafar, has three phases. In the first, Aladdin has to chase him across the Sultan's Palace and dodge obstacles along the way. In the second, Aladdin has to pick up a sword and hit Jafar with it several times while dodging Jafar's attacks. In the third and final phase, Jafar transforms into a giant cobra and Aladdin has to hit him enough times to back him into the screen while dodging his attacks.
  • Shmuck Bait: In the second part of the Cave of Wonders, Aladdin must make it to the end without touching the forbidden treasures. Touching one causes boulders to rain down on Aladdin, crushing him to death.
  • Stationary Boss: In the second phase of the final battle against Jafar, Jafar doesn't move from his spot as he fires at Aladdin. Aladdin must pick up a sword and hit Jafar with it several times to complete the second phase.
  • Temple of Doom: The third level takes place in the Cave of Wonders, where Aladdin must find the lamp without touching the forbidden treasures.
  • Tricking the Shapeshifter: After completing the third and final phase of the final battle against Jafar, Aladdin tricks Jafar into wishing himself to be a genie to trap him in a lamp, in a nod to a similar scene from the movie.
  • Video-Game Lives: Averted to an extent. Aladdin doesn't have any lives in this game, but he does have unlimited continues.
