The player takes the role of Aiyana, a young Native American woman in the American West during the time of America's westward expansion. When a mysterious meteor shower in the town of Corpse Creek causes destruction, people rising from the dead, and other strange happenings, Aiyana must put her survival skills to use to find out what happened to the people of Corpse Creek... especially her mother.
Gameplay involves the usual survival game elements of chopping trees for wood, breaking up rocks for stone and ore, hunting and gathering for food and water, and crafting gear and shelter. Exploration involves Aiyana crafting "World Pieces", which allows the player to select where to place terrain and quest objectives, and what sort of terrain to place.
This game contains examples of:
- Action Girl: Aiyana isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to survive in the world she's in.
- Everything Breaks: Being a survival game, the player is able to destroy anything in the vicinity to survive.
- Fearsome Critters of American Folklore: Jackalopes appear in the game; they can be hunted for meat and antlers.
- Green Rocks: The events of the game are caused by strange glowing meteorites that fell around the town of Corpse Creek.
- Weird West: The game takes place in the American Wild West, but also involves zombies and other supernatural elements.
