Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
- Kang the Conqueror will be the Big Bad of the third Ant-Man movie, of all projects. While Kang the Conqueror has fought Ant-Man, normally it is done in the context of the Avengers comics, rather than in Ant-Man's solo comics. Likewise, most people thought that Kang's time-traveling nature would have made him a better fit for a future Avengers film than a street-level hero such as Ant-Man.
- The first post credit scene introduces a lot of Kang-variants like Rama-Tut, likewise resembling the Council of Kangs from the comics, all portrayed by Jonathan Majors.
- It was also revealed at the San Diego Comic Con that M.O.D.O.K. would be another villain in that movie. Like Kang he hasn't that much history with Ant-Man. Also, the fact that M.O.D.O.K. just starred in a just-cancelled animated series didn't give fans much hope to see him in live-action soon. The second trailer also reveals that M.O.D.O.K. would be played by Corey Stoll, making him a Composite Character with Darren Cross, the Big Bad of the first movie who turns out to be alive despite shrinking down to atoms in that movie.
- The MCU didn't seem like the place to expect Bill Murray in before his involvement with that movie was announced. Later it was revealed Murray will play Lord Krylar, an inhabitant of the Quantum Realm. Krylar only appeared in one issue of The Incredible Hulk where he died in, making this character debuting in an Ant-Man-movie really unexpected.
- An official press release revealed that Katy O'Brien would portray Jentorra, another minor character linked to the Hulk instead of Ant-Man who has only a handfull of appearances in the comics and will also be remodelled as an inhabitant of the Quantum real.
- An odd case, as David Dastmalchian was confirmed to return in this movie after portraying Scott's buddy Kurt in both previous Ant-Man movies by the before-mentioned official press release. However, the same release reveals he would play Veb in this movie, a new character and apparently another inhabitant of the Quantum realm.
- The second post credit scene not only features Victor Timely, a Kang-variant from the comics, but also Loki and Mobius M. Mobius investigating this variant.
Blade
- Blade. Outside of small whispers that were made sporadically, few expected he would headline a movie. It was thought that his Darker and Edgier nature and his deal with the supernatural, specifically the element that is the vampires, would keep him away from the MCU. This only made it all the more surprising when their SDCC 2019 presentation closed on the Blade announcement, indicating they were very aware of this.
- On an actor level, the reveal that Blade would be played by none other than Mahershala Ali also shocked many fans, given he'd already played an MCU character (Cottonmouth) in Luke Cage (2016).
Captain America: Brave New World
- The film marks the return of Tim Blake Nelson as the Leader, a character who hadn't been seen since 2008's The Incredible Hulk, and whose villainous origin was one of the franchise's most infamous Aborted Arcs.
- The film will also feature the introduction of Shira Hass as Ruth Bat-Seraph/Sabra, who is not only a lesser known character, but is (at least in the comics) a mutant, which would make her among the earliest mutants introduced into the MCU.
- Thunderbolt Ross will return as a character in this movie, despite his original actor William Hurt passing away shortly before this information came out. Furthermore, no one else than Harrison Ford was announced as Hurt's replacement.
Deadpool & Wolverine
- Many wondered if and how Deadpool would be included in the MCU after Disney bought Fox and get all the Marvel-licences, including Deadpool, back. As the previous Deadpool movies were popular among fans it was a welcomed surprise that Ryan Reynolds will return in a third R-Rated installement set in the MCU.
- In 2022 Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman revealed that the latter would also return in his famous role as Wolverine of the X-Men Film Series, especially after Logan was originally meant to be a farewell for that beloved character and the ending of Jackman playing the character.
