What is the Work?
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is a 2010 CGI family-friendly film that is inspired by the Guardians of Ga'Hoole 16-book series by Kathryn Lasky. The movie is about Soren, who wanted to become a Guardian since his childhood. One night, while their parents are hunting, he and his brother Kludd are kidnapped by the Pure Ones, but while Soren continues to defy them and eventually trains to become a Guardian to save the owl kingdoms, Kludd joins the Pure Ones and becomes deeply fanatical to Nyra.
The movie has a tie-in video game that was released ten days before the movie that focuses on a character named Shard, an orphan who, after his parents were murdered, was rescued by the Guardians and is now working hard to become a Guardian himself to redeem his family's name, as his father was ousted as a traitor though he tried to save his companions. He is being trained by Allomere, a scout who is supposedly loyal to the Guardians… yet has a relatively dark secret.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
Allomere is one of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole who is, in truth, a turncoat who serves the Pure Ones, having made both an alliance and a bargain with the current Metal Beak at the time, Surtr, so he can become the King of the Great Tree. However, since the game takes place within the film's timeline and acts as a midquel of a sort, I'll put this in chronological order.
After the owl named Grettir decided to start a family with Lygeia, Allomere led a flock of owls, raided Grettir and Lygeia's hollow, and killed them both as their unnamed son was still hatching from his egg. Before the owls could kill the now-orphaned owlet, a chaw of Guardians arrived and rescued him, and named him Shard from the piece of eggshell stuck to his coat. At some point, Allomere became a member of the Guardians and Shard's trainer while hiding from him the fact he killed his parents.
However, his lust for power went over his head. During the same time that Soren became one of the Pure Ones' slaves and Kludd was training to become a soldier, Allomere and Surtr made a bargain: Surtr would have Allomere lead the Guardians into their trap once the slaves have collected enough flecks for the trap, and Allomere would become the King of Ga'Hoole including the Great Tree and the western kingdoms.
By the time Soren and Gylfie escaped to the Great Tree, Allomere is training Shard, but he appoints the council in the tree trying to get the other Guardians to question what Soren and Gylfie were trying to tell them. After Soren makes his point again, King Boron sends Allomere and his chaw to go to St. Aegolius effective immediately to discover if the Pure Ones still exist.
