Trivia / Windows Never Released

Go To

  • Defictionalization: Few of Longhorn-based WNR mockups were made as real modified Windows builds.
  • Dueling Works: With OS-tan. Both are fan interpretations of Microsoft Windows, though they were executed very differently. Nonetheless, there is quite an overlap of WNR and OS-Tan fans.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Nermal Cat's WNR videos were taken down as of 2020, though the WNR Archives channel has reuploaded nearly all of them.
  • Life Imitates Art: The release of Windows 8 in 2012 with complete absence of Start Button and Menu in favour of Start Screen bears a striking similarity with some WNR entries that also feature a heavy revamp of the Windows UI.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: jhj22, the father of Windows Never Released, didn't actually intend to start the WNR series, as he made it just for fun, as well as a joke. Moreover, he posted a lot more of Electronic Music and Industrial Metal material than anything even remotely Windows-related and considers them to be his magnum opus. But because "Never Released Windows Versions" allowed the operating system's fandom to illustrate their dream Windows versions, jhj22 nonetheless, even though accidentally, kick-started an entire YouTube genre. At first, he was very confused how the WNR video get a lot of views, today he rides with the popularity of being the god of WNR.
  • Technology Marches On: Invoked, as a large amount of mockups were based on or inspired by several past Windows iterations.
