  • Awesome, Dear Boy: As Julius Schwartz enjoyed telling, Alan Moore grabbed him by the throat and threatened to kill him if he didn't let him write the story. According to Moore himself, he just said "yes" when Schwartz asked him if he wanted to write it.
  • All-Star Cast: The story was penned by the legendary Alan Moore, who wrote some of the most thought-provoking Superman tales, and iconic Silver Age Superman 1950's comic book artists Curt Swan and Kurt Schaffenberger. Perhaps the most fitting farewell to the classic Supes you can get.
  • What Could Have Been: Jerry Siegel, Superman's co-creator and original writer, was offered the chance to write this story (and wanted to accept), but unfortunately couldn't for legal reasons. Though, if nothing else, Siegel’s The Death of Superman (1961) story gives us a possible glimpse into how he might’ve ended the story.
  • Word of Saint Paul: Alan Moore in interviews clarified that regardless of how DC classifies and manages its continuity, he wrote the story under the intent that it is Superman's last adventure and true ending for the entire mythos.
