Trivia / Wentworth

  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Vicky Kosta's Greek background is mentioned by other characters a lot (she's occasionally referred to only as "the Greek"). Actress Artemis Ioannides the daughter of Greek immigrants.
    • While Reb's portrayer Zoe Terakes isn't a transgender man, they are LGBTQ (unlike Socratis Otto, Maxine's actor). Similarly, Lou's actress Kate Box is openly lesbian, same as her character.
    • Leah Purcell's (Rita) father was a boxing trainer when she was a kid.
  • Dawson Casting: There's not a lot of kids on the show, but 20 year old Georgia Flood (21 for her brief season 2 appearance) playing 16 year old Debbie is a moderate case of this. She's only 2 years younger than Shareena Clanton (Doreen), which is definitely not conveyed by their respective characters.
    • Liz's son Artie visits her in season 7, and is canonically identified as being 17. Actor Louis Corbett was 23 when he played him.
    • Hunter Page-Lochard played Shayne Butler at age 23 in season 4, and while Shayne's exact age isn't revealed, he mentions that he took the blame for a friend committing a crime since as a minor he wouldn't be sent to jail. So the character is definitely younger than 18.
    • While the character is no child, Jodie Spiteri is a young, vulnerable inmate, and the fresh-faced Pia Miranda certainly suits the role. Miranda was actually 42 when she played Jodie. She's only 7 years younger than Liz's actress Celia Ireland, 3 years younger than Bea's actress Danielle Cormack, and is actually older than Boomer's actress Katrina Milosevic and Franky's actress Nicole da Silva.
    • Averted by Zoe Terakes, who was just 19 when they began playing Reb Keane. Reb's headstone indicates a 1998 birthdate, making Terakes actually younger than their character.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: A minor example, as she isn't the show that much and it isn't especially hidden, but Nicole da Silva was quite pregnant during her brief season 7 appearance. It goes unaddressed, and it just looks like she's wearing several layers of clothing inside (as well as her belly being hidden by the table in the visitors' room).
  • Separated-at-Birth Casting: With their hairstyles done similarly, as they are here, it's striking how much Danielle Cormack and Georgia Flood really do look like mother and daughter. Jacs even lampshades it in 1.3, calling Debbie "mini-Bea." Celia Ireland and Edwina Samuels also bear a pretty strong resemblance.
  • Spin-Off: There is a Dutch Remake of Wentworth called Celbok H, it is almost a scene by scene remake in some points but the last 20 episodes were original scripts.
  • What Could Have Been: Series 7 was meant to be the final series and the ending was to have Vera, with Franky and Bridget looking at Baby Grace, then Colette Mann, Val Lehman and Fiona Spence entering Wentworth as a nod to the original Prisoner Cell Block H and the final moment being Rita driving pass Joan in a Homeless Camp. However after filming this ending funding came through for Series 8 and so it was reworked to what is seen today
  • Written-In Infirmity: Sort of? Bridget actress Libby Tanner broke her leg shortly before season 6's filming began, and Bridget accordingly uses crutches in that season. It's never really explained what happened to Bridget, though (she starts to explain it to Franky at one point only to get interrupted).
  • You Look Familiar: Katerina Kotsonis plays Officer Brenda Murphy in seasons 4-6, but actually first appears as a nurse named Sarah Collins in season 3.
