Trivia / Welcome to...

Go To

This is the Trivia page! It contains tropes surrounding the development of the work, interesting little facts about stories, common behind-the-scenes conventions, and other notable details that don't show up in the story itself. The key word there is "notable", which a lot of tropers miss and will try to cram in everything that didn't make it onto the main page.

  • Adaptation Distillation: The creepypasta in Welcome to Fanfiction.net is a condensed version of a similar satirical creepypasta by one of the writers. Its reviews page was modified and used for some of the fake "reviews" of Oliver Twist: The Twisted Fates.
  • Approval of God: Some fans have created foreign-language dubs of the episodes. Jello has promoted some at the beginning of the original videos in annotations.
  • Corpsing:
    • The narrator cracks up on the line "Are fanfiction.net's standards just too high for you?"
    • One comment featured in YouTube Comments is simply "poop poop", and it's made by a "90sKid1998". The humor comes from William T. Sopp (the reader for that comment) completely collapsing with laughter at the absurdity of it.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • While Jello enjoys the videos themselves, he has repeatedly said that he does not enjoy working on them due to how difficult it is, which is part of the reason he chose to end the series.
    • Jello has openly expressed that he's not proud of the Welcome to Tumblr episode, including a disclaimer in a pinned comment:
Jello: When “Welcome to Tumblr” came out the video blew up thanks to a heated negative response. It got a lot of hate comments. And y’know what? Fair enough! The wording is bad and a lot of the jokes are. Uh. SUPER bad. There are some bits and pieces I still like about the video, but most of the gags make me wince and say “Wow, I cannot BELIEVE that chose to phrase that joke that way.”
  • Deleted Scene: Fanfiction.net has a video showing off several of them:
  • Fan Translation: Some for Youtube and Tumblr. Jello is more than fine with it.
  • Inspiration for the Work: The series is influenced by and even uses the music from the Spongebob Squarepants episode Krusty Krab Training Video.
  • Old Shame:
    • Jello admitted he was a bit disappointed with Facebook in the HD reupload of it. However, this was more because it has a bad resolution and unclear voice-acting, which the HD reupload focused on fixing.
    • Jello has acknowledge in a Tumblr post that he did find some of the humor of the Welcome to Tumblr video to have aged poorly. Despite his changing views, he's keeping the video up.
  • Real-Life Relative: pLasterbrain the singer whose songs played in every Welcome To video (and a voice actor in the later ones), is Jello's Real Life sister.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: As Jello later revealed, he used SpongeBob SquarePants music, which isn't fair use, as he initially assumed. So Viacom has been stealing most of the money he would've gained from these videos.
  • Word of God: According to the credits of Tumblr, the little figures used to represent people are called "pegs" and are based off of board game pieces. This is used for a Visual Pun (take it down a peg) in Fanfiction Dot Net.
