Trivia / Water Lilies

  • Associated Composer: This was the first collaboration between Céline Sciamma and her friend composer/DJ Jean-Baptiste de Laubier, better known as Para One, and far from being the last.
  • Dawson Casting: Mild one. Adèle Haenel and Louise Blachère were 18 and played the 15-year-olds Floriane and Anne, respectively. Averted with Pauline Acquart (Marie) who actually was 15, the same age as her character.
  • Reality Subtext: In one scene, Floriane reveals her experiences with sexual harassment from older men to Marie; she's surprised when Marie has no similar stories of her own, and says she's lucky. Floriane's actress Adèle Haenel was 18 during the film's production, and she went public in 2019 accusing Christophe Ruggia, who directed the film she debuted in as an actress, of sexually harassing her from the age of 12 to 15, which would've made Ruggia in his late 30s at the time.
  • Romance on the Set: Adèle Haenel had one with the director, Céline Sciamma. They broke up after a few years but still collaborated on Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
