Essentially, Anne Rice's books provided partial inspiration to Vampire: The Masquerade, which contributed to the vampire pop-culture that resulted, which birthed the above-mentioned vampire books/movies/films, which in turn inspired the additions to the 20th Anniversary revision. And the cycle continues!
Had a loose live action TV show adaptation... On Fox which was picked up for a second season, by another channel... At least, until the lead Vampire actor's death. Even with a large cast with multiple ongoing plotlines, the character, especially the actor in question, was the main reason anyone wanted a second season.
