Trivia / Untitled Goose Game

Go To

  • Permanent Placeholder: The title of the game is one, as "Untitled Goose Game" was a placeholder until the positive reception to the first trailer caused it to be permanent.
  • Referenced by...:
    • One of the random events in Disco Zoo tasks the player with finding a goose that escaped from Untitled Zoo and is now annoying all the guests.
    • Io Interactive loved making references to the game on Twitter, and in Hitman 3's Berlin level, the devs included bollards in the level with spray painted "Zutritt Verboten" ("No Entry") signs, with a goose crossed out next to it.
    • Nerf NOW!!: The Goose stands no chance against Angie's sentries.
    • Dumbing of Age: In a Patreon only strip Carla dresses up as the Untitled Goose for Halloween and proceeds to start stealing everyone's props.
  • Schedule Slip: The early projections for the game's release date were for early 2019, but unforeseen complications resulted in it being delayed until late 2019 instead. House House took it in stride, fortunately, tweeting the bad news with a funny animation.
  • Trolling Creator: When players started creating left-wing narratives in which the goose was not just being a jerk, but disrupting capitalism, the creators jokingly claimed that in their canon the game was set in a socialist utopia, and everyone the goose harassed was a good Marxist.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • There was initially no plan to create music for the game. The trailer's score garnering such a positive response caused the developers to work extra on creating music that fit the trailer's and game's mood.
    • At least one point, it looked like the goose could give the old man a heart attack, making him fall backwards, opening his gate to the next area. In the game proper, he hammers his thumb after being surprised by you, then falls in the same way.
    • The first trailer revealed the player could control two Geese but the feature was later scrapped.
      • This feature was later brought back in September 2020 as a free two-player co-op update.
  • Word of God: According to a developer tweet, the game takes places in an alternate UK where Margaret Thatcher was driven out of office by a goose, leading to the decline of the Conservative Party and a revolution by Labour politician Tony Benn.
