• What Could Have Been: The first draft of this story, planned since 2014, was called "Mt. Total Drama" and involved 16 contestants competing while traveling up a mountain. A few characters survived, namely Boris, Kingsley, Rhett, and Suvir, while some others were altered (Frances was given a Race Lift and Graham was a Composite Character created from two scrapped ones) and the rest were scrapped.
  • Scrapped characters included a "SJW"-type (who would've constantly argued with Boris, and was abandoned due to being less funny and even more stereotypical than Boris), two people designed after singers from Postmodern Jukebox, an obnoxious frat boy named Brendan (an early draft of Christian), a psychedelic drug user named Ava who would’ve been the first boot, and a love triangle of three characters named Lexi, Elyse, and Mauricio, which was eventually molded into the Roald, Whitney, Graham, and Kelsey situation.
• Write Who You Know: As in previous stories, multiple characters are based in some way on people the author knows. The most important instance here is Erica, based on a former close friend of the author's, with the end of the friendship providing significant inspiration for the plot.
