Trivia / The Winchesters

Go To

  • Directed by Cast Member: Richard Speight Jr. (Loki) directed "Reflections".
  • Follow the Leader: Several:
    • Drake Rodger called it John's Breaking Bad and executive producer Robbie Thompson said they used Better Call Saul "as a creative North Star".
    • The ending of Season 1 has a similar twist to another CW show, Superman & Lois, 's Season 2 finale, which aired a year before it. Namely, the show you are watching is not in the same universe as its parent show like the audience was led to believe, instead being another in the connected multiverse of the franchise. In both cases, this allows it to avoid huge amounts of Continuity Snarl that would occur in trying to directly reconcile it with the shows that came before.
  • Produced by Cast Member: The show is produced by Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean, along with his wife Danneel Ackles who played Anael in the previous show.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Bisexual main character Carlos is portrayed by nonbinary queer actor Jojo Fleites.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Ada does not appear until late in the pilot episode because Demetria McKinney was filming her last scenes as Anacostia in Motherland: Fort Salem when the Winchesters pilot started filming.
  • Role Reprise:
  • Romance on the Set: Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger began dating after they met while filming the show.
  • The Other Darrin: 1972 Mary and John are played by Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger, rather than Amy Gumenick and Matt Cohen, who played them in 1973 on Supernatural. In addition, Tom Welling takes over as Samuel Campbell, a role originated by Mitch Pileggi.
  • What Could Have Been: An older draft of the pilot had Samuel and Deanna Campbell appear in the flesh, and Maggie as Mary's late sister rather than her late cousin. Samuel is abducted by an Akrida (who can move through shadows in this version) at the beginning of the episode while on a hunt with Mary. Deanna makes a reference to Millie Winchester having met her and Samuel before, and having told them to stay away from her family after they worked a case near her garage. After stepping off the bus, John bumps into and has a friendly conversation with Lata (who is handing out anti-war flyers) rather than into Mary, whom he first meets fighting the demons outside the Men of Letters clubhouse. There's a network of hunters who communicate over CB radio, using coded messages and handles - while driving with John, Mary gives advice about the "recipe" (method of killing) for "ghoulash" (a ghoul) to a "cook" (hunter) with the handle "Jester"; hers is "Lotus". Dean's dog Miracle also appears.
