Trivia / The Walk

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: The film received critical and audience acclaim, but bombed at the box office.
  • Box Office Bomb: It completely failed at the U.S. box office, mustering only $10 million total in its entire run. It did better overseas, but only could muster $60 million worldwide against a $35 million budget (generally, a movie needs to make double its budget to enter profitability due to theater and marketing costs). Its relatively low budget means that it's not a disaster in the league of John Carter and its ilk, but it demonstrates that perhaps Americans aren't comfortable with a film celebrating the Twin Towers (as well as being noted for its vertigo-inducing effects, which caused people to walk out on the film in discomfort and got advisories from news outlets).
  • Fake Nationality: Indeed, most of the cast is this trope.
    • American Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Frenchman Philippe Petit. Levitt studied French poetry at Columbia University and speaks French fluently and during production, he picked up a Parisian accent.
    • Scottish Steve Valentine as American Barry Greenhouse
    • French Canadian Charlotte Le Bon as French Annie Allix
    • English Ben Kingsley as whatever nationality Papa Rudy was.

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • This is the first Tristar Pictures film to use their updated version of the 1993 Pegasus Vanity Plate; Pegasus now rears in this one.
