Trivia / The Suicide Shop

Go To

  • Celebrity Voice Actor: The cast of the Polish dubbing was composed mostly of celebrities - comedians, musicians, journalists - with surprisingly good results.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: A number of countries refused to release the film because it supposedly "glorifies suicide". If they had actually watched the film they would have known that while the Tuvaches (sans Alan) romanticise suicide, the film itself clearly shows it in a negative light.
  • No Export for You: No English dub exists and Canada is the only country to get a release with English subtitles. The film as is can be purchased on iTunes, though.
  • Shrug of God: The novel's author Jean Teule attributed the book's abrupt ending to wanting to leave it to the reader's interpretation whether Alan died or was saved by his family at the last minute.
  • What Could Have Been: When Patrice Leconte was originally approached to adapt the novel to film, it was planned to be a live-action film, but he turned down the offer due to believing that a live-action adaptation wouldn't have worked. He agreed to make the film when it was later decided to be animated due to animation allowing the kinds of content that would've been difficult or unacceptable to use in a live-action film.
