Trivia / The Sinking City

  • Creator Backlash: Frogware says not to buy the version of The Sinking City on Steam, claiming they didn't develop it. Basically, Nacon pirated the game from the copies they'd been given by Frogware and submitted their own version to Steam while claiming to own the IP. After regaining ownership of the game from Nacon in late 2023, one of the first things Frogware did was invalidate all saves made on the Nacon version, requiring Steam players to replay the game again from the start to regain progress.
  • Executive Meddling:
    • The Sinking City was taken out of stores during the lawsuit between Frogware and Nacon for several months due to the fact the former accused the latter of withholding over a million dollars in revenue. A Parisian court ruled against Frogware, though, and the game was returned to digital stores.
    • Nacon also attempted to assert it owned The Sinking City IP and produced their own version that they published on Steam despite the fact that Frogware maintains ownership of the IP. Frogware claims that Nacon was only a publisher, not a co-developer or owner of the work.
  • Vapor Ware: An odd post-release example. Updates, patches, and DLCs became almost impossible to work upon because of the fact Frogware is, well, based in Ukraine and the country is (as of January 2023) still engaged in a massive war with Russia.
