• Beam Me Up, Scotty!: In merchandise and trading cards, and even to the game Tapped Out, Laura's signature quote is stated to be "J'ever have a Hertz Donut?" ...When in fact, it was Bart who said the line. Laura only responded in kind. "Hurts, don't it?"
• First Appearance: Of The Sea Captain (referred to by his real name, Captain MacAllister) and Ruth Powers.
• What Could Have Been: The subplot of Homer suing "The Frying Dutchman" was written after two other stories were rejected:
  • Homer getting in a feud with guest star Don Rickles for making fun of him during his act. Don Rickles turned down the opportunity—accusing the writers of ripping off his act instead of parodying it and saying he did not want to be portrayed as a "mean guy".
  • Homer becoming a barber. It was rejected because the writers back then didn't have Homer get a new job every episode and ignore his main job as a safety inspector for the nuclear plant. On top of that, they didn't think it was all that funny. Season 22's "Homer Scissorhands" would ultimately try out this idea.
