• Fake Nationality:
  • Joe Anderson is British playing Mathias, who is German. His friend Heinrich is played by Jordan Patrick Smith, who's Scottish-Australian.
  • Dimitri is Greek, but his actor Dimitri Baveas is Australian.
  • Luis Antonio Ramos has a role as a Mayan Rifleman. He himself is Puerto Rican.
• Method Acting: Laura Ramsey met with psychiatric nurses to properly get a sense of how someone would behave if they thought something was overtaking their body.
• Self-Adaptation: Scott B Smith was only two thirds of the way through writing the book when he was called about the film rights, and asked to write the screenplay. So he finished the book knowing he'd be adapting it for film.
• What Could Have Been: The Greeks were cut from the first draft of the screenplay, but director Carter Smith convinced Scott B Smith to add them back in.
