Trivia / The Red Violin

Go To

  • Cast the Expert:
    • Violinist Joshua Bell doubled for Frederick Pope in multiple scenes.
    • Christoph Koncz, playing Kaspar Weiss, really was a violin prodigy. So while some of his playing was dubbed over in post by Bell, he actually is playing correctly in all of his scenes — including the metronome scene! He went on to become a principal violinist in the Vienna Philharmonic.
  • Descended Creator: Co-writer Don McKellar also plays restorer Evan Williams.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Violinist Joshua Bell, who is world-renowned and played the violin parts on the soundtrack (and thus, most of the characters who play the titular violin were "played" by him), has a cameo as a violinist in the orchestra during Frederick Pope 's recital...but never actually gets to play the violin in this scene as himself. He was, however, the body double for Pope, and was thus shot from behind playing the violin in many of Pope's scenes.
  • Production Posse: Colm Feore, who plays the auctioneer, appeared as the title character in 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould, also directed by Francois Girard.
