- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Ironically, given that Disney now owns the Muppets, it has never been released on video, nor is it available on Disney+ or other streaming services. The only option to watch the special currently is through rips of it on YouTube from those that recorded the special back when it aired.
- Reality Subtext:
- Jim Henson was very close to selling the Muppets and the Jim Henson Company to Disney at the time of the special's production, with the ending (in which Mickey Mouse himself welcomes the Muppets into the family) reflecting that. This has become Harsher in Hindsight however, given the deal fell through not too long after due to Henson's death and conflict over the rights to the Sesame Street characters.note
- It was also during the production of this show that Muppet performer Richard Hunt revealed to Henson and his other co-workers that he'd been diagnosed with AIDS, which no doubt added a further sense of an uncertain future for the team alongside the impending Disney takeover. Hunt would die about a year-and-a-half after the special aired.
