- Creator's Oddball: Daedalic Entertainment is most well-known for developing point-and-click adventure games (although they also have a few Turn-Based Tactics games), while The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a stealth-based Action-Adventure.
- Creator Killer: Shortly after the game's release, developer Daedalic Entertainment announced that they would no longer be developing games internally, and laid off all of their development staff. They would remain as a publisher, however, narrowly averting complete death.
- Dummied Out: A hair animation feature had to be disabled in a day-one patch on the PS5 version because it kept causing the game to crash.
- Troubled Production: German gaming news outlet GameTwo reported that Gollum suffered a difficult development due to a combination of a small development team that was inexperienced making 3D action games, a small budget due to the studio's financial difficulties, and a short amount of time to develop the game imposed by a time limit on their Lord of the Rings license.
