- Follow the Leader: Ostensibly, the leader being the Africanus Trilogy, which popularized the Second Punic War in the historical fiction landscape in Spain. Aside from the occasional direct Shout-Out, The Lion of Carthage even ends its arc with the very beginning of the war, shortly after Africanus starts, thus making it a sort of Spiritual Prequel.
