Trivia / The King of Fighters XV

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Lynn voices both Isla and Re Verse.
    • Tsuguo Mogami voices both Ryuji Yamazaki and Rugal Bernstein, which he had already done in The King of Fighters All Star.
    • Team Awakened Orochi, while they're alternative versions of characters already in the base game, are also technically separate characters.
  • Content Leak:
    • No less than a week before the game's launch, some people who were lucky enough to snag a retail copy of the game have not only started sharing the game's features (namely the Trials and DJ Station), but also Story Mode as well. Of course, being that SNK themselves explicitly gave out an embargo until February 14th, much of these streams and videos were taken down fairly quickly.
    • A strange leak where the leaker used stand-in images to allude to unannounced characters was published a few months before the game's release in February 2022. In addition to revealing base roster characters that had yet to be revealed (Maxima, Kula, Krohnen, etc.) it also revealed the entire first season of DLC characters.
  • Dueling Works: The King of Fighters XV released around Februrary 2022, several months after other notable fighting games, Guilty Gear -STRIVE- and Melty Blood Type Lumina.
  • Dummied Out: The new stage that was included with the Omega Rugal update had been embedded in the game since it launched.
  • Newbie Boom: Easily the biggest one since XIII, if not more so. Good word of mouth, significantly improved visuals (especially compared to XIV), the addition of the highly-regarded (and requested) GGPO rollback netcodenote , and both Open Betas being well-received in terms of their gameplay and online quality all but ensure that XV will go on to become the best-selling game in the series since '98.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • B.Jenet is voiced by Mikako Komatsu instead of Rei Saito.
    • Chizuru is voiced by Sayaka Ohara instead of Akiko Saito (who voiced her from '96 to 2000) or Yukiko Sugawa (2003).
    • Chris is now voiced by Rui Yamasaki instead of Rio Ogata (who voiced him in the older games until 2002 UM) or Shiki Aoki (who voiced him in World and All-Star).
    • Duo Lon is now voiced by Keisuke Komoto instead of Tsunehito Maruo.
    • Elisabeth is now voiced by Shizuka Itō instead of Kayoko Oshima.
    • Gato is now voiced by Yuma Yamaguchi instead of Kouji Ishii.
    • Hinako is now voiced by Akane Tamura instead of Ayako Kawasumi.
    • Krohnen (K9999) is now voiced by KENN instead of Nozomu Sasaki.
    • Shermie is voiced by Erina Seto instead of Hazuki Nishikawa.
    • Yashiro is voiced by Keisuke Hamaoka, taking over from Makoto Awane.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Team Samurai (notably Haohmaru and Nakoruru) was originally planned as far back as KOF '95, albeit with Galford in place of Samurai Shodown (2019) newcomer Darli Dagger for their third member.
  • Release Date Change: Owing to the COVID-19 Pandemic (and quality assurance reasons), the game's original 2021 release has been changed to February 17th, 2022 instead.note
  • Role Reprise: Besides the characters that have already been recast in XIV returning for this game, a few characters still maintain their voice actors despite the long hiatus.
    • Sonosuke Nagashiro returns as Ash, though he has also voiced him in All Star.
    • Atsushi Maezuka returns as Benimaru, voicing him since the first game.
    • Harumi Ikoma returns as King, since the character's debut back in Art of Fighting.
    • Haruna Ikezawa returns as Athena, voicing the character since '98.
    • Kong Kuwata also returns as Geese, voicing the character since Fatal Fury 3.
    • Susumu Akagi returns as Goenitz, having voiced him since The King of Fighters: World.
    • Yumi Kakazu returns as Kula, voicing the character since her debut in 2000.
    • Katsuyuki Konishi returns as Maxima, voicing the character since his debut in '99.
    • Shiho Kikuchi returns as Whip, voicing the character since her debut in '99.
    • Daiki Nakamura once again voices Haohmaru, voicing the character since Samurai Shodown 64.
    • Takehito Koyasu returns voicing Shingo in a mainline game for the first time since KOF XI.
    • Kunihiro Kawamoto returns to voice Kim after having voiced the character in KOF World.
  • Sequel Gap: XV released nearly six years after The King of Fighters XIV.
  • Throw It In!: According to this tweet, the glowing deer in the Freezing Forest stage was a bug, but the staff left it feeling that it went surprisingly well with the rest of the stage's aesthetic.
  • Voice-Only Cameo: Orochi's voice can be heard faintly whenever Iori performs his climax attack.
  • You Sound Familiar: Yuma Yamaguchi, who had voiced the ring announcer in the previous game, now voices Gato in this game.
