Trivia / The Kindly Lion

• No Export for You: Just like The Rose Flower and Joe, the original book and animated short never gained an international release.
• Self-Adaptation: Takashi Yanase (author of the original book) directed the short alongside working on the artwork. He also wrote the lyrics for every song performed by Japanese music group "100s".
• What Could Have Been: Originally the short was planned as a full on Animated Musical. However Osamu Tezuka decided to only include a couple songs in order to be respectful to the source material.
