  • Executive Meddling:
    • According to an interview with Steve Wang, the director of the first live action film (and a fan of the original anime and manga), the film's producer Brian Yuzna wanted to make a kids film out of the licence, while Wang wanted to keep the original tone of the series. This ended up resulting with the two having big fights over the film's direction and Wang getting zero creative control at all.
    • If that isn't bad enough, the DVD was released as a Director's Cut, which added a few scenes and transitions.... and cut all the violence out. By the way, Wang had nothing to do with it despite the cut labeled as such; it was Yuzna who commissioned it.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The unedited version of the film from its release on VHS. Why? As mentioned under Executive Meddling, the DVD cut all the violence out of the film.
