Trivia / The First Podcast

  • Christmas Rushed: The "Christmanakuh Special" in 2019.
  • Creator's Apathy: Some of the more sophisticated gags from earlier episodes, as well as the profanity censor, have all bit disappeared. Lars has openly admitted that they require too much effort for only light comedic results.
  • Development Hell: The recording and release of certain guest episodes. Some guests have been scheduled even months in advance, and have had to delay recording multiple times. A few guests are still technically on the docket and have been since 2018.
  • Distanced from Current Events: In light of truths being revealed by Cosmodore about his sex crimes, Lars replaced the episode on which he was a guest with a PSA about inappropriate sexual behavior with minors.
  • Executive Meddling: While not directly enforced by any sponsors per se, Madison and Lars have remarked on multiple occasions that they abandoned certain earlier segments in order to remain appealing to their sponsors, such as readings of My Immortal.
  • Growing the Beard: After about three months, Lars and Madison made an executive decision to almost completely stop doing episodes without guests. It was around this time that the show also began to truly find its stride, and the focus shifted from the personal lives of the hosts to the variety of guests they would interview. The show is objectively better now because of it.
    • The show also really came to its own on another level around episode 33 (according to the original numeration), in which they started to interview larger creators.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Episodes with Madison's now ex-fiancee in the background, where the two would bicker practically every time. Could be seen as normal couple banter in the past, but now...
    • Several episodes in 2020 had jokes about Madison quitting or being replaced with a new host. Welp...
  • Old Shame: Lars and Madison consider the very early episodes as an example of this, though they don't completely hate them.
  • Permanent Placeholder: The show name. "Replacement" is not quite the right term, but it was not selected as a serious title for the podcast, and Lars was open to renaming it if a better one came up. It didn't.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: Alexis never 'really' had time to commit to a podcast that records at least twice a week. But dammit, for 23 episodes she sure did try.
  • Spiritual Successor: A cursory viewing of Lars's YouTube channel shows that this show is, actually, this trope to it. While the former is a channel and the latter is a podcast, the comedy and editing style are nearly identical.
  • Throw It In!: Once an episode if not even more often.
  • What Could Have Been: During Madison's tenure, the hosts occasionally discussed the somewhat abrupt change of plans in regards to the show's format, and mused on how things might have gone if the original "romantic comedy" style had been preserved. Both generally agreed that the change was for the best.
