Trivia / The First Nudie Musical

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Greg Finley plays Jimmy (one of the backers) and the transgender woman who mugs George late in the film.
  • Alan Smithee: Spoofed. The Film Within a Film is directed by an incompetent nitwit named John Smithee.
  • Billing Displacement: Ron Howard is onscreen for exactly 22 seconds, but some video releases have billed him as one of the stars.
  • No Budget: A low-budget movie about the making of a low-budget movie.
  • Old Shame: The pioneering soundtrack label Varèse Sarabande kicked off with this as their first release in 1978...For some reason it was never reissued on CD by the label.Kimmel's own label fixed that.
  • Screwed by the Network: Paramount picked up the film after a bidding war and started trying to build up momentum for it. Then the Paramount-produced Laverne & Shirley became a hit, and studio executives suddenly got nervous about distributing the film, for fear that the presence of Cindy Williams in the cast might lead to a scandal that would harm Laverne and Shirley's ratings (even though she doesn't appear nude or have much involvement with the more risqué parts of the film). Paramount deliberately tried to bury the film, until one of the producers threatened to sue for breach of contract. Opting for independent distribution, the film became a surprise Sleeper Hit.
  • Underage Casting: The timeline of Schechter Studio suggests that Harry probably should be around 40 or so and Rosie would probably be around the same age. Also, the twist of having them perform the closing number would be funnier if they were older and less likely to be in a porno film. But Stephen Nathan and Cindy Williams were both in their late 20s when the film was made.
  • Vindicated by Cable: Back in The '80s, you could count on this airing at least once a week late at night on either Cinemax or Showtime.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: In-universe.
Harry: This is Dick Davis, our composer, and he's going to be teaching you the songs as he writes them.
