Trivia / The Fearless Vampire Killers

Go To

  • Completely Different Title:
    • In the UK, the movie is known as Dance of the Vampires.
    • In French, the movie is known as Le Bal des vampires, meaning "The vampires' Ball" ("ball" as in "party").
    • In Italian, the movie is known as Per Favore, Non Mordermi Sul Collo, meaning "Please Don't Bite Me on the Neck".
  • Executive Meddling: The U.S. theatrical release, in addition to being retitled by the producer, suffered a good many edits. Twenty minutes of footage were cut, all of the actors were redubbed with American accents, and a goofy animated prologue was added to the beginning. Roman Polański disowned this version, and it has never been released on DVD.
  • Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor: Roman Polański dubbed his own character in the French dub.
  • Real Life Writes the Hairstyle: Sharon Tate, famous for her blonde hair, wears a red wig because Roman Polański was favoring redhead actress Jill St. John. Producer Martin Ransohoff had Tate under contract and pushed for her to be cast, and the character being red-haired was the only condition for her to play the role.
  • Romance on the Set: Roman Polański fell in love with Sharon Tate during filming and they were married soon afterward.
  • Troubled Production: Roman Polański talks about production difficulties in his autobiography:
Our first month's outdoor filming became a series of ingenious improvisations, mainly because the last-minute switch from one location (Austria) to another (Urtijëi, an Italian ski resort in the Dolomites) had left us so little time to revise our shooting schedules. The fact that we were filming in Italy entailed the employment of a certain number of Italian technicians and that, in turn bred some international friction. Gene Gutowski (the film's European producer) rightly suspected that the Italians were robbing us blind.
  • What Could Have Been: Roman Polański originally planned to cast Jill St. John as Sarah, but went with Sharon Tate instead at the urging of producer Martin Ransohoff.
  • Working Titles: The Vampire Killers and Your Teeth in My Neck.
