Trivia / The Chainsmokers

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit: "#SELFIE" was their first big hit, but "Roses" was the one that established them as something other than a novelty act. And while "Closer" probably doesn't count for the Chainsmokers themselves, it can be seen as one for Halsey, who became a pop superstar after that song's success.
  • Career Resurrection: They basically arose from the musical dead after "#SELFIE" to become one of the biggest names on the music market with "Roses", "Don't Let Me Down", and "Closer".
  • Creator Backlash: In October 2022, they removed their song "Kanye" from streaming services following the titular rapper's antisemitic comments on social media.
  • Referenced by...: Ash from Both Can Be True has a Chainsmokers shirt that Mitch wrinkles his nose at.
  • Sampled Up: Time will tell, but it's looking likely that this will happen to "New York City" thanks to it being sampled in Fivio Foreign, Kanye West and Alicia Keys' "City of Gods".
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: "I Love U" to T-Pain and Akon's "Bartender", so much so that they were credited among the writers.
