Trivia / The Blackblood Alliance

  • Creator Breakdown: This was the main reason for the cancellation of the original comic, which Kay detailed here. A myriad of personal problems, including her struggles with her health and her mother's death, led her to quit the comic entirely and reboot it from the ground up when she was in a better place in her life to do so.
  • Follow the Leader: While there have been other animal comics before on and off of DeviantArt, there has been a notable large incline in their popularity and creation since (the first) Blackblood Alliance started. That's pretty damn impressive that it caused that, especially considering that the first comic never got very far (only around 40-50 pages or so) before being discontinued.
  • Series Hiatus:
    • The last update of the old comic was in July 2009 before it was eventually rebooted entirely.
    • The reboot has currently been on one since 2019, due to Kay Fedewa's health issues.
  • Stillborn Franchise: The original version only got one issue published, then stopped nine pages into the second issue.
  • What Could Have Been: There was a lot of Word of God in regards to what was planned for the original comic while it was still running, most of which didn't make it into the story before it stopped:
    • Bloodspill and Blade were going to have a son named Reicher, who had a design sheet. The in-story reason for his conception was solely pragmatic; Word of God was that Bloodspill would've seen Blade as an ideal Chosen Conception Partner because of his strength and little else.
    • Rapier was intended to be revealed to be Swiftkill and Bloodspill's half-sister through their father, Banehallow. Her mate was going to be a wolf named Scimitar.
    • Swiftkill was supposed to eventually get a Love Interest named Rhinjin, a wolfdog whose main skill was (for lack of a better description) a wolf version of martial arts.
    • A future main character was a fox named Coldsnap.
  • Write Who You Know: Cricket's personality was based on that of Kay's friend and collaborator Erin, who was the original comic's background artist.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: By Kay's own admission, this was her main problem with writing the original comic; she had been making up the story page-by-page and had no actual outline for it. This was also the reason Schedule Slip often affected the release of the pages.
