  • Backed by the Pentagon: Captain Dale Dye negotiated to get an old Russian tank from the Israeli Defence Forces. The film, set in Afghanistan, was shot in the Sinai desert.
  • California Doubling: Israel for Afghanistan.
  • Fake Afghani: The Afghani characters are played by a variety of American, Israeli, and Indian (including Erick Avari) actors, thus none of them look very much like actual Pashtuns.
  • Fake Russian: Most of the Soviet characters.
  • Screwed by the Network: the movie was made under one studio head but released under a new one, who refused to promote the film and released it in a mere handful of theaters despite early good reviews.
