Trivia / The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet

Go To

  • The Danza:
    • The entire family used their actual names. This even applied to some guest stars. One episode had actor John Archer (Anne Archer's father) play a fictionalized version of himself.
    • Wally Plumstead was played by Skip Young, which was the Stage Name of Ronald Plumstead.
  • Directed by Cast Member: Ozzie directed all but a handful of episodes. David directed some episodes in the final seasons.
  • Referenced by...:
    • David Rabe's Tony Award-winning 1971 play Sticks and Bones is a darkly comic story about a blind veteran of The Vietnam War coming home, and it makes the point of how the war upended the feel-good Americana of The '50s by naming the blind soldier David, with his parents named Ozzie and Harriet and his guitar-playing brother named Ricky. Christopher Durang's 1976 play The Vietnamization of New Jersey is an absurdist satire on Sticks and Bones, and takes the gag further by naming the mother Ozzie Ann, the father Harry and the blind son Et.
    • "Disney Girls (1957)" by The Beach Boys extensively references the show in its bridge, with the song's narrator imagining himself as a third Nelson child.
Hi Rick and Dave, hi Pop, good morning Mom
Guess what? I'm in love with a girl I found
She's pretty swell 'cause she likes church, bingo chances
      And old-time dances
  • What Could Have Been: In the wake of Ricky Nelson's musical success, several record labels tried to talk David into launching a singing career, but he politely refused, telling them he wasn't a very good singer at all.
  • Written by Cast Member: Ozzie was effectively the showrunner, getting writing credits on a majority of the episodes.
