Trivia / That Cold Day in the Park

Go To

  • California Doubling: Averted, since the film is set in Vancouver, but it's considered the beginning of Vancouver's status as a destination for Hollywood productions. Altman himself would later film McCabe & Mrs. Miller there and named his production company Lion's Gate Films, after the prominent bridge that links downtown and the North Shore.
  • Dueling Works: With M*A*S*H, believe it or not. Both Robert Altman films were in theaters at the same time in early 1970 (albeit with That Cold Day mainly playing the drive-in circuit).
  • Fake Nationality: Sandy Dennis, Michael Burns, Michael Murphy and Luana Anders were all Americans playing Canadian characters. Averted with Canadian actress Susanne Benton, however.
  • He Also Did:
    • Co-produced by Donald Factor, the grandson of Max Factor, and financed largely from his family's cosmetics fortune.
    • Michael Burns (The Boy) later retired from acting and became a history professor, and also wrote a well-received book about the Dreyfus affair.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Jack Nicholson wanted to play The Boy, but, since he was already in his 30s, got turned down.
    • Harry Nilsson was approached to do the music, but said no. He went on to work with Altman on Popeye.
